What it takes
A great suit is tailored by a combination of people, skill, experience, process, material and soft human elements:
Starting with the Master Cutter, who is the director of the process, he must be highly experienced in crafting patterns matching different types of clients and requirements, body shapes and sizes; working with different fabrics and material; and teaming with a variety of tailor associates. He needs also good communication skills to interface with the client and bridge the client's requirements with his supporting team.
The Supporting Team is a group of skilled specialists, each handling a different part or stage of a full 3-piece suit: the Coat Maker, Waist Coat Maker, Trouser Maker, Finisher, Presser and Alteration Tailor.
The Process is the way by which the Master Cutter translates consistently the Client's wants into the final product.
Quality Material, a high quality suit must necessarily have high quality material to go into its making: The Fabric, Lining, Stitched Canvass, Pads, Buttons etc. Last but not least, the soft human elements to harness all that above: Passion, Eye for Details, Communications and Quality Consciousness.
Our Bespoke Process
At Hin & Johnson, bespoke service is more than just make-to-measure. The concept is based on knowing you, the client: what you explicitly want and implicitly require, and keeping a record of those information. We advise you, craft your individual pattern and hand make your apparels according to your precise specifications.
Our Process:
The First Appointment (getting to know each other)
Meeting our Master Cutter, who has more than 30 years experience serving clients in Hong Kong, China and the UK. He will ask you your purpose for the suit, requirements and what you have in your wardrobe. He then recommends the fabrics which best suit your needs and fit the mix in your wardrobe. He will then proceed with taking your measurements and during which understand your style requirements and your physique, ask and take your questions and advise you accordingly. After this first meeting, the Master Cutter will create the pattern uniquely for you and order the selected fabric. When the fabric arrives, the Master Cutter will check it and then perform by hand the first cut; and his supporting team will stitch up a "basted" or semi-finished garment, which is like a first draft of a piece of writing.
The 2nd Appointment (reviewing the first draft)
Our Master Cutter will then meet with you again for the first fitting with the baste to hone in more precisely the initial measurements he took. He will be making chalk marks on the garment and taking notes of the finer details. He will also confirm with you the styling details on your buttons, lapels, vents, sleeves, pockets, loops, pleats . . . etc. At this stage, you can request for changes to the style you want. After this meeting, he will proceed with the precision cut and start work with his team to finalize your order.
The 3rd Appointment (reviewing the final product)
Your suit is now almost complete. The Master Cutter will meet with you again for another fitting to check for final adjustments. If the Master Cutter and you are both satisfied with the suit, he will proceed with finishing it completely for delivery. Should you or the Master Cutter sees any adjustment needed, further alterations will be made and you will be required for another final fitting. This process will go on until finally a suit perfect for you is made.
Caution: Bespoke does require some of your patience. The timing of this entire process will take anywhere from 2 to 6 weeks, depending on whether you are a first time customer (which usually takes longer) or a regular customer who has all the records filed with us.
